The final runway of the MIA Runway 5K 2024 Series is Miami International Airport. Participants will experience a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to run on runway 8L-26R at MIA. The event will begin inside the 25,000-sq.-ft. American Airlines Maintenance hangar right on the edge of the runway.

 


 

MIA is America’s busiest airport for international passengers and freight, and the leading economic engine for Miami-Dade County and the state of Florida, generating business revenue of $31.9 billion annually.

The 2024 MIA Runway 5K on October 19 will be capped at 2,500 participants and will not open for registration as a stand-alone race until June, after the first two races have been completed. To guarantee a spot in the MIA race, participants must register for the entire MIA Runway 5K Series.

Timing:

All participants will receive digital RFID timing with live results including a course split time. Currently registered participants can sign-up to receive text updates with your time once you cross on course timing mats, use the link below to opt-in. Allow up to 48 hours after registration.

VOLUNTEER FOR RUNWAY SERIES

Packet Pick-up:

4640 NW 36th St, Bldg: 890 Miami, FL 33166

  • Friday, October 18 (Schedule 11 AM – 6 PM)
  • Saturday, October 19 (Schedule 6 AM –  7:25 AM)

Runners will pick-up the following:

  • Bib Number
  • Wristband
  • Event T-shirt

Spectators will pick-up an event wristband  which grants access to the hangar and designated spectator areas.

Airport Security Requirement: Everyone MUST pick-up their own packet – ID is required for verification of identity.

For those who pick-up packets on Friday: a wristband will be placed on your wrist, this will need to be worn through event day. This is a requirement imposed by airport security.

Parking:

  • Main registration is located at 4640 NW 36th Street, BUILDING 890 Miami, FL, 33166
  • Limited parking is available near the hangar. We encourage carpooling and rideshare services. Remote parking areas will have transportation shuttles. Follow the instructional signage and parking personnel.

On-site Parking:

  • NW 36th Street and 4900 Blk. (cross street) – This will be the only active crosswalk with police assistance. Crossing at other points is at your own risk.
  • To access “on-site” parking, cars must enter through NW 4900 Blk – follow the parking signs and the police guidance. Be prepared to stop and have vehicles cleared by K-9 units.

What to bring:

Security Screening:
Confirm you have answered all the questions on the registration platform, and you have provided your citizenship status, last 4 digits of your social security number and/or passport number. If an issue or clarification arises we will contact you.

Rules & Guidelines:

  • NO race day registration – registration is closed. 
  • Each person must pick-up their own race packet or Spectator wristband. Friends or family are NOT permitted to pick-up. No exceptions.
  • Airport security will use the information provided at the time of registration for vetting and security purposes.
  • There is NO GEAR CHECK. Please leave valuables at home.
  • NO bags of any kind will be allowed on site (i.e backpacks, purses, etc).
  • If you do not have a valid ID, you will not be allowed access to the event
  • Parents/Guardians will be allowed to pick-up minors.
  • K-9 units will be on-site. No pets allowed.
  • Spectators must also be registered, have purchased a spectator pass and answer security questions.
  • Spectators will be picking up wristbands at packet pick-up for access to the designated viewing areas only.
  • Spectators do not have access to the runway or the First Class Lounge
  • All minor children must be accompanied by an adult at ALL TIMES and purchase a spectator ticket
  • Spectators need to provide a valid ID. (Parents/guardians will check in with child)
  • Please DO NOT venture outside the designated run course area. Stay off the grass.
  • Please arrive early, the hangar will close promptly at 7:30AM, no late arrivals allowed to start the race or entry the hangar. Due to strict timelines in re-opening the runway, no one will be allowed to start the race late. TSA will deny you entry to hangar.
  • Once you enter the hangar, if you choose to leave you cannot re-enter the hangar. No re-entry allowed
  • Please do not discard any this on the runway or the perimeter road – use the provided trash receptacles

This is a secure area, there will be no re-entry. Once you have received your packet and checked in you will not be allowed back to your car. Please make sure you have everything you need prior to entering the main event area.

Spectators:
All registered spectators must check-in to obtain a security wristband which allows access into the hangar. No spectators will be allowed on the runway. We have designated spectator areas and you must adhere to staying in these areas. 

Start Line:

Runners will be corralled prior to heading out to the start line. To gain access to the runway and the 5K you must have both your bib number and the corresponding security wristband visible. You may be denied access if you do not follow these instructions.

NO Gear Check:

Gear check will NOT be available. Do not store, hide or leave any personal items along or near the racecourse, including the start and finish areas. You are responsible for safely storing your gear offsite prior to the race. Any items left unattended will be removed from the area and will not be made available later.
